Mom always made these by doubling the batch and pressing into a jelly-roll pan

Ingredients:
3/4 cup margarine or butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour (not self-rising!)

Directions:
Heat oven to 350°.
Mix margarine/butter and sugar. Mix in flour. If dough is crumbly, mix in 1 to 2 Tbsp margarine or butter.
Roll dough about 1/2 inch thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Cut into small shapes (leaves, ovals, squares, triangles, etc). Place about 1/2-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at until set, about 20 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
