Soft Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
1 tsp baking soda
3 1/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 Tbsp orange rind
1/2 cup thick sour cream

Directions:
Sift baking soda and flour together.
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, vanilla and orange rind in a large bowl.Beat for 2 minutes. Add the sour cream. Slowly add the flour mixture,and beat until well blended.
On a floured surface, roll until 1/2-inch thick. Cut with cookiecutters. Sprinkle with colored sugar, if desired. Put on greasedcookie sheets.Bake at 425°  for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
